3 reasons why I can't marry you
New Poems From Australia

1.

God has decided to open up to us today
& the sickened lapping has ceased.
he has leant down & whispered in all our ears,
he has cried tears or sheer frustration
& flooded the streets.

2.

Nice boy.
I fear I’d crush you
when we’d clutch hands
over tea
when we’d
mouth to each other
how we came to settle
don’t wait for me to call

3.

Interestingly, I’ve come to love the city
though each time it cakes me in rancid dust.
Hyper extension of hide & seek
the weak are apparently invisible &
the me’s of the world
are pretentious and arrogant at heart.
We make a hundred pretty faces
staring out from a train.
