The Claws

The striking part
of origin—what is honed
following prey by scent.

Fast acceleration, surreptitious
urge to escape
bed of sand or superstition.
But the root of “hell”
as well as “hole”
is “conceal.” Ars est celare
Ovid—a raptor’s nest

accumulates a forest’s bones
as a lover’s bed accumulates

holes—dying in cold—
searching all of the burrow’s

decoy openings.
